I'm surprised that (mostly) parents and some teens are still stuck in the 70's when it comes to thinking what their senior photo should look like. As per these examples, many still think that this is what senior portrait photography should look like. Now I'm not one to tell anyone HOW they should look in their senior picture. Hey...it's your money and you deserve whatever makes you happy.
The new senior portrait session are a far cry from the old ones of yonder when mom and dad used the "official" photographer (more about that one later...) and the photographer took 2 frames and hoped you didn't blink, or else it was the sitter making another trip to the studio and dragging out that rented smock (or whatever they call that thing that NOBODY ever wears EXCEPT when getting their senior picture taken) and suffering through another boring session.
When seniors call me asking about my services, that is just the start. I spend a great deal of time talking with you, finding out your interests, wondering what clothes you like to wear, and how your senior year is going. What are you doing, sports played, music played, etc? Do you know any cool places that you love and always wondered what it would be like to have a picture of you there? In general, I keep the options open. I want to have fun shooting you and I KNOW that you would like the experience to be enjoyable as well. My goal is to make you look good, and I'll work hard getting that look after understanding you as a person!
