My condolences to the family of Ben Winter

I am so sorry for your recent loss of Ben. Though I didn't know him well, I enjoyed photographing him for his senior session last year. He was full of promise and a joy to work with. I hope your pain diminishes over time and that you can stay strong during this tragic time. Rest in Peace Ben...

Shoot with Hanna

Enjoyed a great shoot with Hanna last week! Got a lot of photos and the light was bright and overcast, perfect for soft light and working quick. It's always more fun when you can just work with available light and a reflector instead of hauling out the strobe lights, stands, etc! Thanks for a great shoot Hanna, and have a great Senior year!

Shoot with Katie

Katie, on vacation from Colorado thought "why not get my senior session done while I have the time?" I was happy to oblige and we had a fun session. Have a great senior year Katie!

New Seniorpics website is in the works...

I've been spending the last couple of days working on the 2009/10 seniorpics website in between shooting a couple of assignments and dealing with some family business. I'm really psyched! The new website will differ from the current by showing more pictures and less copy. If you like the images and would like to have me shoot your session, just drop me an email using the link provided on the new website and I'll email you information and a price list of services.

I'm excited this year to offer more products and collections. The biggest change for this season will be proof books. I originally thought that seniors would prefer viewing and selecting their images online, but I've listened to your feedback and I'm now offering the proof books that you will KEEP and not need to worry about returning. The proof books look AWESOME! You'll love showing them to friends and family. They are spiral bound, have a semi hard cover and back and a custom cover with YOU on the front of the book! For those that prefer to view online, I do offer that option as well.

I hope that this blog will encourage dialogue between clients, former clients, and future clients. I want to be YOUR senior photographer. I will keep an open mind to what you would like for product offerings and I hope you will use this blog to ask questions and get a conversation going. Stay tuned and I'll let you know when the new website is online for seniorpics! You can also take advantage to some of the specials that will be offered from time to time here on the blog! Please feel free to link to this blog from your Facebook and MySpace page as well!

NOT your parent's senior picture...

I'm surprised that (mostly) parents and some teens are still stuck in the 70's when it comes to thinking what their senior photo should look like.  As per these examples, many still think that this is what senior portrait photography should look like.  Now I'm not one to tell anyone HOW they should look in their senior picture.  Hey...it's your money and you deserve whatever makes you happy.

The new senior portrait session are a far cry from the old ones of yonder when mom and dad used the "official" photographer (more about that one later...) and the photographer took 2 frames and hoped you didn't blink, or else it was the sitter making another trip to the studio and dragging out that rented smock (or whatever they call that thing that NOBODY ever wears EXCEPT when getting their senior picture taken) and suffering through another boring session.

When seniors call me asking about my services, that is just the start.  I spend a great deal of time talking with you, finding out your interests, wondering what clothes you like to wear, and how your senior year is going.  What are you doing, sports played, music played, etc?  Do you know any cool places that you love and always wondered what it would be like to have a picture of you there?  In general, I keep the options open.  I want to have fun shooting you and I KNOW that you would like the experience to be enjoyable as well.  My goal is to make you look good, and I'll work hard getting that look after understanding you as a person!

Welcome to Pittsburgh Senior Portrait Photographers!

This is the official senior portrait blog site of Pittsburgh photographer, Mark Bolster.  Mark LOVES photographing senior portrait sessions.  Bolster shoots ONLY on location.  He does not maintain the overhead of a photo studio in Pittsburgh, but chooses to shoot in interesting environments, both outdoors and indoors.  Alleys, industrial lofts, parks, sport facilities, barns,
senior homes, dance studios, auditoriums, and the backdrop of downtown Pittsburgh are all utilized as dynamic and interesting back drops for your senior portrait.  To see Mark's work you really need to visit his senior portrait website to understand how special and unique your yearbook and senior pictures can be!  Check back soon and often...this blog will offer tips on photo sessions, deals, portrait portfolio samples and news that is current.
